Community Education / Adult Classes -
Barnum Community Ed Spring 2026

Gardening for Everyone

Enjoy the many benefits of gardening, regardless of physical, cognitive, space, or budget limitations!

One of the many good things about gardening is it can be adapted to fit anyone’s circumstances. Learn how in this 2-session class. First session will provide an overview of how gardening can improve physical, mental, and cognitive health and give participants an opportunity to talk about their own experiences and any areas of difficulty for them. If time is available, we will start reviewing examples of adaptations. Second session will dig deeper into adaptations to meet needs of participants and will include examples of adaptive tools and equipment, garden beds, containers, reuse/recycle ideas, sources for free seeds and free or low-cost plants, and much more!

Instructor: Esther Gieschen is a lifelong gardener who credits gardening with helping her keep moving despite multiple kinds of arthritis. She is a member of the Carlton County Master Gardeners.
